Today is a Gift

today is a gift woman at sunrise feeling positive affirmation mantra intention

Years ago when I was having a hard time at my job I looked for ways that would help me stay more positive. And, in integrity. I was upset about things that were happening and could feel myself being pulled in the direction of talking behind someone’s back.

It was also challenging for me to walk in the office door every morning. But, I knew going to work every day was a choice and if I decided to go, I wanted to show up as my best self. So, every day before work I would sit in my car and say:

“Today is a gift and I will live it with optimism, honor, and love.”

You can call it a mantra, affirmation, intention, or whatever you want, but it helped me focus on what I wanted my day to be like and who I wanted to be within it.

It wasn’t perfect. I certainly wasn’t perfect. But, it helped. It really did.

These words have stuck with me throughout the years. That was decades ago, and this morning as I wrote in my journal they came into my mind. They have become a part of who I am and like to come out to play once in awhile.

They remind me to focus on the many gifts in my daily life and stay true to my higher self. And so, I welcome them. I know they will serve me well because I truly believe today IS a gift and I intend to live it with optimism, honor, and love.

What about you? Do you have a mantra or affirmation that works for you?

And, what are the gifts in your daily life? I would love to hear what you have to say. You can reply below.

This is a great “growth-mindset” task: setting a purpose that I will be positive, bring my best self to the table, practice love…

I’m going to use this with my class this year. I think I’ll start by just writing the affirmations at the top of the morning announcements on the board – see what sticks. What do you think?
