Rediscovering Yourself: Imagine a Blank Page

rediscovering yourself
self discovery life is a blank page life as a blank page

Some of my clients come to me because they feel like they have lost touch with who they are. This often happens when there has been a change in their life. Things like divorce, moving, and kids going off to college can leave you feeling kind of floaty, especially if like most women, you’ve been focusing on taking care of everyone else.

So, here’s a fun exercise to help stimulate a remembering of who you are. It’s ideal for journaling, but you can also just play with it in your mind.

Imagine your life is a blank page with no preconceived ideas of what it will look like. There are no shoulds. There are no rules. You are free to create whatever you want. If this is challenging for you, think of it as a fantasy.

Let’s start with your house. It’s basically a white box with nothing inside. Think or write about what you would love to do with it. What architectural details would you add? What colors would you choose? Where in the world will you place it? Now, picture all of the other things you would add to make it feel like your own personal home sanctuary.

Next, comes your empty closet. You have nothing to wear. Bring together a vision of what your ideal wardrobe would look like. One that expresses your personal taste and who you are. Don’t forget accessories, lounge wear, or items for special occasions.

Now, imagine yourself sitting in your beautiful home, wearing clothes you love, getting ready to head out the door. Where do you want to go? What kind of job would you like to have? What will you do for fun? Who will be your partners in crime?

It’s okay if it all feels unrealistic, you are simply playing at rediscovering yourself. But then, you never know. Anything is possible.

You might also enjoy creating a vision board, Pinterest board, or folder of thoughts and images to keep you inspired by your authentic self and how you want to show up in the world.

It’s your life. You can pretend, fit in, or give yourself away, but it’s much more fun to dig deep into the real you and let her shine brightly each and every day.
