Reflect, Release, Renew – Journaling Prompts for the End of the Year

Journal prompts

It is once again the time of year when I share an end of year process. I find them incredibly valuable for my clients and myself to anchor what we have learned in the outgoing year and become clear and intentional in what we want to create next.

In the past, things have been set up as a step-by-step process to follow, but this year my intention is to make it more fluid. Going through the prompts in order will create a lovely ready-to-go process or you can use the list of questions as a menu and pick and choose which questions you would like to play with most.

Some of my clients go away to a retreat space every year for this process and others feel best in the comfort of their own homes. Some write pages and pages and others keep things short and sweet with just a few sentences per prompt. Whichever you choose, I encourage you to create uninterrupted time in comfortable surroundings, perhaps with a nice cup of your favorite chocolate, coffee or tea at hand.

Here are the questions. Enjoy!

Reflecting on the Outgoing Year

  • What challenges did I face, and what did they teach me?
  • What surprised me (good or bad), and how did I grow because of it?
  • What habits, beliefs, or patterns held me back?
  • What did I learn about myself that I didn’t know before?
  • What relationships brought me the most joy? Which ones caused the most discomfort?
  • What drained my energy this year?
  • What supported my energy and well-being?

Gratitude & Appreciation

  • What am I deeply grateful for this year?
  • Which small, simple moments brought me joy?
  • Who showed up for me and how did that impact me?
  • What qualities within myself am I thankful for?
  • What opportunities or experiences enriched my life?
  • What did I enjoy discovering, learning, or exploring?
  • What felt like a gift, even if I didn’t recognize it at first?

Letting Go & Leaving Behind

  • What am I ready to release this year?
  • What stories, beliefs or patterns am I no longer willing to carry?
  • What am I ready to forgive myself for?
  • What am I willing to forgive others for?
  • What clutter (mental, emotional, physical) needs to go?

Visioning the Coming Year

  • What do I want to create, explore, or begin?
  • What qualities or habits do I want to cultivate in myself?
  • What relationships or connections do I want to strengthen?
  • Who am I evolving into and what does she need?
  • What is one word or theme that will guide my year ahead? What do I want my life to look like at the end of the next year?
  • How do I want to feel?
  • How can I make that happen?
  • What intentions am I ready to set for the coming year?

If you would like to share anything you learned during this process with me, I would love to see it. You can send it through my website contact page or email it to me. Sometimes sharing your dreams and intentions grounds them more deeply in reality.

And, if you would like the support of a professional, experienced Life Coach for this process or to help bring your dreams and intentions into reality, I would love to talk to you.

Wishing you love, peace and many blessings to come,

Linda
