A Grace Filled Way of Entering the New Year

grace filled new year resolutions goals

You may have noticed I’ve been a little quiet lately. Usually, at this time of year I’m advocating year end processes and goal setting for the year to come. And yes, many of my clients are working diligently on these.

But for me, this year felt different. Instead of working on goals I wanted to slide gently and gracefully into the new year.

Part of this may be that I have already been working on something. I had my annual medical check up in November and was not happy to see some of my numbers were “borderline”. So, I have been gradually changing up some things since then and it already feels like I’m moving forward on what I want, to bring more health and well-being into my life.

It’s doesn’t feel hard, harsh, or like something I have to do. It’s more of a gentle shift in direction that is evolving over time.

This year I didn’t feel like setting goals. Instead I will be listening to my heart and gradually moving toward what it calls me to do. My business is doing well and I am too. There is no reason to push to achieve anything. Maybe it’s my age, but I honestly feel that I will accomplish just as much this year as I did before.

Next year I may feel differently. Goals and intentions are wonderful tools to keep us moving forward. My only real caution about them is to not make promises to yourself that you do not feel confident you will keep. Broken promises damage self-trust and can impact how you feel about yourself.

I am excited for those of you who feel called to set goals and make new commitments. And, I am equally happy for those of you who prefer a gentler entry to the new year.

Every year may call us differently, but as long as we are listening to our hearts, we can’t go wrong.
