Simple Solutions: Exercise

Not many people know that I was once an AFAA certified personal trainer. This was back in the days when fitness training was a new thing. I didn’t plan on helping people exercise, I just wanted to learn. And, I learned a lot.

Simple Exercise is as Easy as 1, 2, 3.

There are 3 main components of healthy and they are all equally important.

  1. Aerobic Exercise is pretty much anything that makes your heart beat faster. It is important for increasing stamina and heart health. Examples include:
  • Walking or running
  • Aerobic or fitness classes
  • Dance
  • Riding a bike
  • Yard work or cleaning house

2. Strength Building increases the capacity and endurance of your muscles. It is important for our ability to get things done and maintaining muscle mass, which is especially important for women as we get older. Muscles also improve our appearance and hold our tummies in. Examples include:

  • Lifting weights or other things
  • Resistance bands
  • Pushing and pulling
  • Push ups or planks
  • Some types of yoga and pilates or other core exercises

3. Flexibility Training helps your body maintain a full range of motion. This is important for preventing injury and keeping our hips and other joints healthy. It’s really, really important for mature women. Examples include:

  • Stretching
  • Yoga
  • Pilates
  • Bending, reaching or twisting our bodies
  • Dancing, especially when it includes arm movements and gyrating hips)

Simply choose one or more from each category to do every day.

You will be glad you did.
