If you are human, you are likely experiencing some ups and downs during your Covid-19 experience. I know I am. My worldview and thoughts are mostly positive, but last Sunday I ended up having a good cry. The next day I was back to normal again.
One of the proven methods for maintaining a good mood is to focus on gratitude. Some days I can just have the awareness of it, but it’s always better to document it in some way. You can write it, draw it, paint it, take pictures of what you love or do whatever feels right for you.
If you have a gratitude practice that feels stale or isn’t working, mix things up a bit. Focus instead on magical moments, taking pics of things you find beautiful, documenting your Covid-19 journey, or journaling what your heart wants you to know.
I’ve chosen to stay at home and haven’t gone out except for dog walks in almost 40 days. Practicing gratitude during this Covid-19 shutdown has helped me stay grounded and positive. Here are some of the things I am grateful for:
- Shelter, food and all the things I have
- My daughter-in-law who has brought me groceries and an Easter morning treat – I love witnessing how she shines in this type of situation.
- When my microwave broke, multiple people offered to give me one. There are a lot of good people out there, especially in my small town.
- My son’s sermons and Quick Devotion videos. I get to see him and hear his voice as he shares what he is passionate about.
- Returning to my journal and the peace, inspiration, and gifts it brings
- Reading, gardening, Netflix, Zoom, and walking my dog.
- The opportunity to review and reset my life and how I do things
- The gift of time and an easier pace
- Focusing on saving money and thinking before I spend
- A cleaner house and progress on my to do list
I am also grateful for qualities I am grounding in. I feel more:
- Calm
- Thoughtful
- Grateful
- Resourceful
- Productive
- Loving
- Clear headed
- Confident
- Giving
- Self-sufficient
- Decisive
- Able to receive
Not always, but I can feel these qualities that have always been within me getting stronger and stronger.
What about you? What gifts are you finding during this strange time in our lives? I would love to hear your thoughts, which you can share in the comments section below.

Hi Linda,
I am grateful for stumbling onto you and your webcite in October 2018… I had just retired a month before from California and moved to KC, Missouri in order to be near my family. You have been an inspiration to me…

Hey Linda,
Thanks for your post.
I’ve had a few good cries myself then get up and go on again.
I’m living in Iowa where things perhaps are less severe than other places although we have our share of the virus going on.
I don’t go out much either except to walk the dogs, groceries on occasion and spend a lot of time out getting my garden going when not working on my online business.
Gratitude keeps me focused and doing well. I take more quiet and reflective time as well as journal a lot more these days. It has a way of helping me sort and focus.
I live alone with my animals so being by myself isn’t such a biggie but have had to adjust to seeing family a lot less. The phone and texting always works well in addition to face time if we really want to see each others faces sometimes.
Thanks for your upbeat post. It’s very refreshing and appreciate what you’ve shared!
Hey Cindy: It sounds like we have similar lives and experiences as well as an interest in living simply (I checked out your website}. Thanks for reading what I put down and adding to the conversation.
