I just passed the 5 year anniversary of my move from California to a small town in Missouri and have been reminiscing quite a bit. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long. Making the decision, house hunting and the road trip here with my friend Traci seem like they just happened yesterday.
I feel very at home here in my small town now and barring any strange surprises plan on spending the rest of my life here. I live near my son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren although the kids are in college or on their own now. It’s been a blessing to have this time with all of them and I must say it’s also been nice to know that people who love me are nearby.
Since moving here I’ve lived in 2 houses and acquired a walking companion, my sweet little Daisy. She’s a rescue and a mix of beagle and something with longer hair. I just call her a shaggy beagle. We have walked many miles together in all types of weather and she is mostly a good girl.
People often contact me who are interested in leaving California or moving to a small town, wanting to learn from my experience or get tips and advice. They often say they are inspired by reading about my journey.

I have long thought that there will be a migration away from expensive coastal cities, to small towns. They have a lot to offer, especially when family is there!
