My clients often come to me feeling they need to make big changes in their lives in order to feel peaceful or happy.
While they may be excited, they tend to also feel a bit stuck or overwhelmed. If they seem to be rushing things, it is likely that fear is driving them to run away from something instead of their simply moving toward their dreams.
So, I ask them:
If you made these big changes and got what you want, how would you feel?
They often respond saying they would feel more peaceful, happy, confident, or secure.
And then I ask: How else can you bring more of those feelings into your life?
This tends to surprise them at first, but opens a new perspective. It allows them to let go of the sense of urgency and clarify if the big goal is what they truly desire or just a path to contentment they can get in a simpler way.
Often, the real goal is the desired feeling.
Take a few minutes to think about your dreams and goals, especially ones that feel urgent. Ask yourself:
What is the desired feeling my goal is based on?
Are there other ways to achieve it?
How can I invite more of that feeling into my life today?
And then, check back with your heart to see if that big change is still important to you.
There may be more than one way to get what you really want.
