How to Stop Fear Before It Stops You

fearful little girl afraid fear

Pull out your journal or pen and paper and get ready to shift your fear…

• Write down and complete this sentence – I am afraid of…
• Now rewrite it as – I am excited about (add whatever you were afraid of)
• And then, add the word “because” and list as many reasons as you can for that excitement.

Chances are, you will have gathered enough evidence to alleviate a good amount of fear and be able to move forward. Fear and excitement are like twin sisters. They can sometimes confuse you because they feel so similar. But, you will find that when you shift your focus off fear and onto excitement, all of the wonderful possibilities become more clear.

Give it a try and let me know how it works for you.

I love this!!! It was short, practical and helpful. You don’t often see blog posts that have those three things. Thank you!! I always say that it is the same physiological experience our body goes through when we feel both fear and excitement, we get to choose how we label it. Great tool, thanks again.

  2. It definitely helped! I listed one reason for the fear and came up with four reasons to feel excited. And then, I began to feel excited, which I never would have expected. I think you’re right, that this will make it easier for me to move forward. Thanks!
