How I am Surviving a Crisis

my cat Joey

My little 3 year old cat Joey is very sick.  He almost died.  And, still could.

Being totally human, I went off the deep end with worry.  I created stories about terrible outcomes and took his fear and upset personally, especially when he seemed to not trust me anymore.  It broke my heart.

If you are a regular reader of my blog you know that I have a lot of tools for helping myself through this, but as I searched my heart for what would support me, the answer was clear.  It felt like a craving that I needed to fulfill and it all came down to this:

The God Box – I needed to stop obsessing over what was happening and release attachment to a specific outcome. Ultimately, I believe things happen for our highest good.  Mine and Joey’s.  So, I symbolically put my problems in a God Box and gave them to God.

Comfort – one of the things about being single is that I don’t have a partner to hold me when the going gets rough. The only time I feel alone is in a crisis.  While I have amazing friends, there was something more that I needed.  I felt like a lost, lonely, and scared little girl.  So, I acknowledged and comforted my younger self.  I infused her with love and let her know everything would be okay.

As I write this, Joey’s struggles continue, but I feel stronger, more clear-headed, and able to deal with whatever comes next.

    Dear Linda~
Thank you for taking the time to put this into words and for sharing your experience. I am grateful that I took the time to read it. I so resonate with your message about what to do when something really takes me out of my center and what to do when I really feel alone as well. Blessings and love, Nicole

Thanks Nicole. I’ve posted a lot of ways to overcome things in this blog, but when faced with a tough situation it became really clear what the bottom line was.

I can totally relate to this. I felt like a little girl myself when we recently found a lump on my dog’s chest (it was nothing, thankfully). It’s important to nurture yourself and be kind to yourself no matter what you’re feeling.

Absolutely! And yet, for many of my clients, self-nurturing is the first thing they forget. Good thing they have me to remind them…

My heart goes out to you. Pet’s are so precious and our constant companions. You can use EFT to help your cat. I don’t have a specific video on this but you can watch my introduction to EFT at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IgaKg1NVvk&list=PLOOlfpU6Z3vHd28-zec8BKiSn9-4gpESJ&index=1
This will show you how to do EFT. When we tap for our pets, it’s called proxy tapping. We focus on our pet and the problem. Just tap and state what the problem is. You can say Even though Joey is struggling, I deeply love and accept him. You could do a few rounds on this and then tap in healing energy. If you have any questions please ask.

This past fall I had to put down my 14 year old canine friend. It was the toughest thing I’ve ever had to do. The truth was, the year prior to losing her, I suffered severe anxiety. Every second I was worried just like you. It became so much for me but I let it go because I loved her so much. I’m still trying to take care of myself after losing her. I believe pets are put in your life when you need them. Sometimes they are the ones that need you, but usually you need them more. Be good to yourself. Breathe. Take one day at a time. Be grateful for every moment keep your mind focused as much as you can. Sending you strength!

Oh honey I feel everything you’re saying. Joey is your companion, your familiar as some would call it. So you and he have quite a bond, when he hurts, you hurt. I love the term “God Box” as it reminds me of the Doreen Virtue card I used to pull A LOT during times of crisis to remind me that some things you just have to give into the hands of the creator. We cannot control everything, and as hard as that may be to fathom, once we do, its very comforting.

    Bless your heart, Linda.

Thank you. You are so sweet. The interesting thing is that I posted this to help others and in addition to that I am receiving emails and comments like yours that warm my heart.

    Linda,

You are wise to put share your feelings with us rather than keep them bottled up. It’s especially tough to do for yourself when you are usually the one giving advice and comfort to others. And yet, because you are human too, you must work your way through these down times.

I love your decision to put your worries in your God box, and give comfort to your younger self. If we are to survive these times we must each find the tools that work for us. I’m so happy you find yours.

Your Joey looks like my Sarah, a cat we had for 15+ years. I’m not sure why pets are put into our lives either, but I’m sure the benefit is mutual.
